Welcome to Lac Sante Family Recreational Society

 Who are WE?

In 1993, several lakeside residents and cottage owners at the north end of Lac Sante recognized a need for a group effort to provide some enhancement to recreational activities around Lac Sante, Alberta.  Since 1993 we have acquired four donated used buildings and renovated them to provide emergency, warmup and picnic areas for winter and summer use along all-season recreational trails around Lac Sante and along the north side of the North Saskatchewan River.  The emergency shelter areas all have indoor stoves and outdoor picnic facilities with firepits and outhouses and are available to the public in all seasons.  These facilities were established purely by donations and are maintained by the same along with membership fees and grants from the local municipal and provincial governments and casino volunteer work.

The Society continues to work maintaining all emergency shelters established by them, protecting and developing the 17 kilometer multi-use trail on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, and the 10 kilometer all-use trail around the northwest corner of Lac Sante.  The trails connect to and network with the trails developed by the River Ridge Riders from Myrnam, the Lakeland Breakers Outdoor Society from Two Hills, and the St. Paul Trailblazers Club from St. Paul, Alberta.

NEWS

In the early morning hours of June 6, 2015 the Gido Shack  emergency shelter was destroyed by fire. Since that time, the shelter has been rebuilt in kind and is available for use.  In addition a standing building is being renovated for use at the Lac Sante River Park, located at NE34-55-11W4M. Trail travel was difficult last season due to wet conditions and plans are for 2018 workbees to repair damage to trails and bridges.
